# Two Brothers From St. John's College, Jaffna, Die a Day Apart in Canada and Sri Lanka

JAFFNA, Sri Lanka, Oct. 20 — Two brothers who studied at St. John's College in Jaffna have died a day apart, one in Canada and the other in Colombo.

V. Maheswaran, a retired assistant director of agriculture, died on Friday in Canada. He was 90\. His younger brother, Dr. V. Ruthireswaran, a retired physician, died on Saturday in Wellawatte, Colombo. He was 85.

Mr. Maheswaran was born on Aug. 18, 1936, and spent his career in Sri Lanka's agricultural service. He rose to the post of assistant director of agriculture. Dr. Ruthireswaran was born on Jan. 20, 1941, and practiced medicine until his retirement. The brothers were sons of the late Vaithilingam and Mohanambihai.

News of the two deaths spread quickly among Old Johnians, as the school's alumni are known, in Sri Lanka and abroad. "The Johnian family mourns with you," a condolence message to the family said.

Dr. Ruthireswaran's body will lie in repose at Mahinda Funeral Directors, 59 Galle Road, Mount Lavinia, on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., with cremation at Mount Lavinia Crematorium.

In Canada, a viewing for Mr. Maheswaran will be held on the evening of Friday, Oct. 23, at Ajax Crematorium and Visitation Centre in Ajax, Ontario. A second viewing and a cremation service will take place there on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 25.

Mr. Maheswaran is survived by his children, Thanushia, Kumanan, Niranjana and Kumaran. Dr. Ruthireswaran is survived by his wife, Logapavani, and their children, Kiruban and Tharmini.
