KILINOCHCHI, Sri Lanka — A London-based businessman has donated 5 million Sri Lankan rupees to help expand fertility treatment services at Kilinochchi General Hospital, providing support for a specialized area of care at one of the Northern Province’s main public hospitals.
The donation, from Thangarajah Kalamohan, was formally presented at the hospital on Thursday as part of a project undertaken by Kili Makkal, Tamil for “Kilinochchi People”, an organization founded by members of the Kilinochchi community.
The money will go toward expanding the hospital’s assisted fertility treatment center, according to organizers of the initiative.
The hospital’s director, Dr. M. Thayalini, led the presentation, and Professor Sivalingarajah Raguraman, the specialist overseeing the project, coordinated it.
Mr. Kalamohan joined the event from London. Krishnapillai Vijayarajah, a founder of Kili Makkal; Abinaya Vijayarajah, a medical student in London; and Krishnapillai Vickinarajah, the organization’s Sri Lanka coordinator, took part in presenting the cheque.
Professor S. Kumaran and K. Vijayasekaran, president of the Kilinochchi Hospital Patients’ Welfare Association, also attended, along with hospital officials, staff members and representatives of Kili Makkal.
