Karaituraiyappattu PS Chairman Found Passed Out Drunk on the Road

In an incident that has triggered both public anger and quiet amusement across the Northern Province, Karaituraiyappattu Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Chinnarasa Logeswaran was found passed out under the influence of alcohol on a narrow lane in broad daylight.

The episode occurred during Maaveerar Week, a period of solemn remembrance for the Tamil community, further intensifying public condemnation of the chairman’s behaviour.

Social Media Turns Incident into Satire

Photos and video clips of Logeswaran lying motionless on the roadside circulated rapidly across Facebook, WhatsApp, and X. Netizens responded with a blend of ridicule, disbelief, and frustration — some with sharp humour, others with grave disappointment.

One caption read: “If this is grassroots politics, then he has certainly reached the ground.”

Political Undercurrents and Criticism

Logeswaran is known locally as a trusted loyalist of ITAK’s Acting General Secretary M.A. Sumanthiran. His critics allege that his political rise has been shaped more by loyalty than capability.

Opposition members were quick to comment on the implications of the incident.

One political figure told Jaffna Monitor:

“If blind loyalty is enough to secure positions, then even someone who gets drunk and sleeps on the road can climb the political ladder. This is what Tamil politics has become.”

Public Questions Leadership Standards

Beyond the humour circulating online, many residents argued that the issue reflects a deeper problem concerning the dignity expected of elected representatives.

A community activist noted, “This is not about party politics. It is about basic dignity — the dignity of the people and the office he holds. Leaders are expected to stand for the public, not lie face-down on the street.”

The Levantine Hummus Wars

By: Abbi Kanthasamy A dispatch from a tired restaurant owner watching cousins argue over the same recipe. If the conflict in Jerusalem had been about food instead of religion, it would have ended centuries ago. Because food fights — real ones — are easy. You gather everyone in a room. You put the dishes on the table. People shout a bit. Someone’s grandmother intervenes. And eventually everyone eats. Peace, or something very close to it. Religion, unfortunately, has proven far less coop
