MANNAR, Sri Lanka — A woman has been arrested in Mannar after allegedly killing her husband during a domestic dispute, dismembering his body, and concealing the remains in a toilet pit at their rented home, police said.
The incident occurred in the Moor Street area of Mannar, where the couple had reportedly been living in a rented house for the past two months.
According to preliminary investigations, a heated argument broke out between the husband and wife on Saturday night, during which the woman is alleged to have fatally attacked her husband.
Police said the suspect later dismembered the body on Sunday, placed the remains in bags, and disposed of them in the toilet pit of the residence in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime.
The case came to light after the woman surrendered to Mannar Police on Monday.
Authorities subsequently escorted her to the property, where officers, in the presence of the Mannar Magistrate and Judicial Medical Officer, recovered body parts from the toilet pit.
The victim was identified as a 36-year-old man from Vankalai, Mannar.
Investigators also found that the couple had been residing at the property without formal registration.
The remains have been transferred to Mannar District General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The killing has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing horror over the brutality of the crime.
Mannar Police said further investigations are ongoing.
